The visionary game developer, who helped create the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in the state of California aged 55.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The renowned game designer died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a freeway in LA on this past Sunday, according to.

"This is an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his work," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts said.
