The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
