Supporters Call for Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are demanding that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the individual from Australia pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Grande's Well-being
Numerous fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted event staff at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had assembled in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the well-known stage show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful film of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
