Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
