NY Unveils Portal for Citizens to Share ICE Videos After Detentions of Four American Citizens

New York state AG has launched a fresh digital platform urging locals to submit visual evidence of federal immigration enforcement across the state. This move comes just a day after a major immigration operation rattled Manhattan's Chinatown, sparking large-scale demonstrations.

American Citizens Arrested In Raid

A congressional representative disclosed during a Wednesday press conference that four American citizens were detained and detained for "about 24 hours" following the previous day's operation. Protests occurred in New York on consecutive evenings.

"All New York residents has the right to exist without intimidation," the AG stated in a announcement.

"For those who saw and recorded immigration enforcement yesterday, I ask you to submit that material with us. We are pledged to reviewing these reports and determining any legal breaches."

Form Details

The platform offers spaces to upload images and video footage of the incident, along with a section to indicate where it occurred. When submitting, users must check a box that acknowledges that "authorities could utilize any materials, images, or footage in a public document, including in a legal proceeding or public report."

Details of the Chinatown Raid

The Manhattan operation, which observers say featured dozens of government officers, happened in a popular neighborhood of Manhattan where fake purses, items, goods and merchandise are sold daily widely – typically to sightseers.

Videos of the operation reveal several hooded and equipped personnel restraining and arresting a person, and pushing back bystanders. Crowds of locals trailed the officers through the streets. An armored military vehicle was observed moving along the urban roads.

Leadership Statements

During a news conference held with the rights organization, congressman Dan Goldman, a Democratic representative, stated that four nationals were taken by federal agents for about 24 hours and that there were "no situations where US citizens should be taken for without cause." He noted the citizens were let go on the following day with no charges filed.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not about removing offenders," the congressman said. "This is a armed campaign to create conflict. It is simply a pretext to provoke conflict for this administration to bring in the armed forces to halt conflict that they themselves caused."

Extensive Outcry

Anger over the ICE raid quickly spread – all three political contenders condemned the incident, including NY's governor.

"Repeatedly, the federal government chooses oppressive displays that generate terror, instead of protection. It has to end," a contender wrote.

New York City immigrant rights groups spoke out too.

"Immigration agents targeted Manhattan's Chinatown with tactical trucks, covered personnel and riot gear to go after small merchants working to survive. This operation had no connection to citizen protection and was entirely about terrorizing immigrant families and areas," remarked the leader of a advocacy group.

Official Guidelines

Agency rules prohibits the detention of US citizens and the agency has said it does not take into custody US citizens. Yet, investigative journalism has discovered that numerous citizens have been held against their will by ICE since the start of the present government.

Ongoing Trend

Enforcement actions have been cropping up increasingly in the state and nationwide this year.

An October operation in the city center was the first known raid on an immigrant shelter of the current administration. Demonstrations against immigration enforcement are commonplace including claims of aggression and cruel conditions.

Recently, a document filed by civil rights groups alleged inadequate care of expectant mothers in detention centers.
