Jurgen Klopp says a return to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is an option. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach a different club in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to the touchline, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact at the club. The forward lost his life in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the squad missing him. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it for poor performances though it's a fact. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
