Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
